What is a film review?

A film review gives basic information about a film, a short summary of the story (without spoiling the ending), your opinion about it, and a recommendation for the reader.

The structure of a film review

1. Introduction — the film’s title, genre, and basic information
2. Short summary — what the film is about, no spoilers
3. Your opinion — what you liked or didn’t like, with reasons
4. Recommendation — would you recommend it, and to whom?

1. Introduction

“‘The Last Journey’ is an exciting adventure film directed by Karim Hassani.”
“This is a thrilling action movie that was released last year.”

2. Short summary (no spoilers)

Give just enough information to interest the reader, without revealing the ending.

“The story follows a young scientist who discovers a mysterious signal from space and must decide whether to share it with the world.”

3. Your opinion

Always support your opinion with a reason.

“I really enjoyed the special effects, because they made the space scenes feel realistic.”
“However, I found the ending a little predictable.”

4. Recommendation

“I would definitely recommend this film to anyone who enjoys science fiction.”
“Overall, I’d give this film 4 out of 5 stars.”
