Phrases for talking about health problems, and for asking for or giving advice. This is your reference before the exam.
I DON'T FEEL WELL.لا أشعر أنني بخير
A general way to say you’re sick.
"I don't feel well, I think I have a fever."
I HAVE A HEADACHE.عندي صداع
Used to describe a specific symptom or pain.
"I have a headache, can I sit down?"
I'VE GOT A SORE THROAT.عندي التهاب في الحلق
Another common way to describe a symptom.
"I've got a sore throat and it hurts to talk."
I'VE BEEN FEELING TIRED LATELY.أشعر بالتعب مؤخرا
Used for a symptom that has continued for a while.
"I've been feeling tired lately, even after sleeping well."
MY STOMACH HURTS.بطني يؤلمني
A simple way to describe pain in a body part.
"My stomach hurts after lunch."
I THINK I'M CATCHING A COLD.أعتقد أنني مصاب بالزكام
Used when you feel symptoms starting.
"I think I'm catching a cold, my nose is blocked."
WHAT SHOULD I DO?ماذا يجب أن أفعل؟
A simple, direct way to ask for advice.
"I have a headache — what should I do?"
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?بماذا تنصحني؟
A polite way to ask someone for their suggestion.
"What do you recommend for a sore throat?"
COULD YOU GIVE ME SOME ADVICE?هل يمكنك أن تعطيني بعض النصائح؟
A polite, slightly more formal way to ask for help.
"Could you give me some advice about sleeping better?"
DO YOU THINK I SHOULD SEE A DOCTOR?هل تعتقد أنه يجب أن أزور الطبيب؟
Used when you’re unsure if the problem is serious.
"Do you think I should see a doctor about this cough?"
IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR THIS?هل هناك ما يمكنني فعله لهذا؟
A gentle way to ask what actions might help.
"Is there anything I can do for this back pain?"
YOU SHOULD...يجب أن
The most common way to give advice.
"You should drink more water."
YOU SHOULDN'T...لا يجب أن
Used to advise against something.
"You shouldn't skip breakfast."
IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD...لو كنت مكانك لكنت
A softer, more personal way to give advice.
"If I were you, I would rest for a day."
IT MIGHT BE A GOOD IDEA TO...قد تكون فكرة جيدة أن
A gentle way to suggest something.
"It might be a good idea to see a doctor."
WHY DON'T YOU...?لماذا لا
A friendly way to suggest an action.
"Why don't you try drinking some tea with honey?"
HAVE YOU TRIED...?هل جربت
Used to suggest something the person may not have thought of.
"Have you tried getting more sleep?"
A quick tip
“You should” is direct but still polite for everyday advice. “If I were you, I would…” feels warmer and more personal — good for advice between friends. Always try to explain WHY, not just give the advice alone.
“You should drink more water, because you seem tired.” sounds more helpful than just “You should drink more water.”
