Phrases for suggesting an idea, and for accepting or rejecting a suggestion politely. This is your reference before the exam.

WHY DON'T WE...? لماذا لا
A friendly, common way to suggest an idea.
"Why don't we recycle our plastic bottles?"
HOW ABOUT...? ما رأيك في
A casual way to suggest something, followed by a verb + ing.
"How about walking to school instead of driving?"
WHAT IF WE...? ماذا لو
Used to suggest an idea as a possibility.
"What if we organized a clean-up day at school?"
LET'S... هيا بنا
A simple, direct way to suggest doing something together.
"Let's plant more trees around the school."
I SUGGEST THAT WE... أقترح أن
A clear, slightly more formal way to suggest something.
"I suggest that we use less plastic at home."
MAYBE WE COULD...? ربما يمكننا أن
A soft, gentle way to suggest an idea.
"Maybe we could turn off the lights when we leave the room."

THAT'S A GREAT IDEA. هذه فكرة رائعة
An enthusiastic way to accept a suggestion.
"That's a great idea, let's do it."
SOUNDS GOOD TO ME. يبدو جيدا بالنسبة لي
A casual, friendly way to agree.
"Sounds good to me, when should we start?"
YES, LET'S DO THAT. نعم، لنفعل ذلك
A simple, direct way to accept.
"Yes, let's do that this weekend."
GOOD THINKING. فكرة ذكية
Used to compliment and accept someone’s idea.
"Good thinking, I hadn't thought of that."
I'M UP FOR THAT. أنا موافق على ذلك
A relaxed, enthusiastic way to agree.
"I'm up for that, count me in."

I'M NOT SURE THAT'S A GOOD IDEA. لست متأكدا أن هذه فكرة جيدة
A soft way to express doubt about a suggestion.
"I'm not sure that's a good idea, it might be expensive."
I'D RATHER NOT. أفضل ألا أفعل
A polite, direct way to decline.
"I'd rather not, I don't have much time this week."
MAYBE NOT THIS TIME. ربما ليس هذه المرة
A gentle way to say no without closing the door completely.
"Maybe not this time, let's think of another plan."
I SEE YOUR POINT, BUT... أفهم وجهة نظرك، لكن
A polite way to disagree while still respecting the idea.
"I see your point, but I think there's a simpler solution."
THAT COULD WORK, BUT... قد ينجح ذلك، لكن
A way to partly accept while raising a concern.
"That could work, but we might need more time to plan it."

A quick tip


After “Why don’t we”, “Let’s”, and “I suggest that we”, use the base verb (no -ing). After “How about” and “What if we”, the verb often changes: “How about” takes verb + ing, “What if we” takes the base verb.

“Why don’t we recycle?” (base verb)
“How about recycling?” (verb + ing)
“What if we recycled?” (past form, for a hypothetical idea)
