Lesson 9: Culture & Fun — Greenpeace & Environment Anagrams

A writing task with a real debate built in
Unlike more descriptive writing tasks in other units, Lesson 8 asks students to genuinely argue a position — solar or nuclear — giving Lesson 5’s suggestion-making language direct, real use.
How to Use These in Class
Contrast “too” and “enough” with paired examples
Write one sentence with “too” and one with “enough” about the same situation side by side (“The water is too polluted to drink” vs. “The water isn’t clean enough to drink”) — direct contrast makes the difference in meaning click faster than separate rule explanations.
Let suggestions lead into the opinion paragraph
Teaching Lesson 5’s suggestion-making language shortly before Lesson 8’s writing task gives students ready phrases for proposing solutions within their argument, not just stating a position.
Use real prepositions of movement with the pollution topic
Sentences like “pollution spreads through the water” or “waste travels into the sea” give Lesson 6’s prepositions of movement genuine environmental context rather than generic examples.
