What is a biography?
A biography is a short piece of writing about a real person’s life — usually their background, achievements, and why they are important or interesting.
The structure of a one-paragraph biography
1. Introduction — who the person is and why they are known
2. Early life / background — where and when they were born, their beginnings
3. Achievements — what they are famous for or accomplished
4. Closing sentence — their importance or legacy today

“Fatima Mernissi was a famous Moroccan writer and sociologist.”
2. Early life / background
“She was born in Fez in 1940 and grew up in a traditional household.”
3. Achievements
Use Simple Past for completed actions in someone’s life story.
“She wrote several important books about women’s rights in Muslim societies.”
“She became one of the most respected feminist thinkers in the Arab world.”
4. Closing sentence
“Today, her work continues to inspire readers around the world.”
