Phrases for expressing hopes and wishes. This is your reference before the exam.

I HOPE THAT... آمل أن
The simplest, most common way to express a hope.
"I hope that everyone will have equal rights one day."
I'M HOPING TO... آمل أن (لنفسي)
Used to talk about a personal hope for yourself.
"I'm hoping to volunteer for a human rights organization."
I REALLY HOPE THAT... آمل حقا أن
A stronger way to express a hope.
"I really hope that this campaign makes a difference."
LET'S HOPE THAT... لنأمل أن
A shared way to express hope with others.
"Let's hope that the new law protects workers better."
MY HOPE IS THAT... أملي هو أن
A more thoughtful, personal way to express a hope.
"My hope is that future generations will live in a fairer world."
FINGERS CROSSED THAT... نتمنى بشدة أن
A casual, idiomatic way to express hope.
"Fingers crossed that the petition gets enough signatures."

I WISH THAT... أتمنى لو
Used for something you want, often unlikely or unreal right now.
"I wish that discrimination didn't exist."
I WISH I COULD... أتمنى لو كان بإمكاني
Used when you want to do something but can’t right now.
"I wish I could help more people directly."
IF ONLY... لو فقط
A strong, emotional way to express a wish.
"If only more people understood the importance of equality."
I'D LOVE IT IF... سأحب ذلك لو
A warm, hopeful way to express a wish.
"I'd love it if everyone had access to education."
I WISH THINGS WERE DIFFERENT. أتمنى لو كانت الأمور مختلفة
A general way to express dissatisfaction with a situation.
"I wish things were different for refugees around the world."
MY WISH IS FOR... أمنيتي هي
A thoughtful way to introduce a personal wish.
"My wish is for a world with equal opportunities for everyone."

A quick tip


“Hope” is for things that are realistic and could still happen. “Wish” is often for things that are unlikely, impossible right now, or things we regret. After “wish”, we usually use a past form, even for a present situation.

“I hope the law changes soon.” (realistic, possible)
“I wish the law was fairer.” (about how things are now, using past form after “wish”)
