How to structure a personal e-mail. This is your reference before the exam.
What is a personal e-mail?
A personal e-mail is an informal message to a friend or family member — casual and friendly, not formal like a business e-mail. It usually shares news, asks questions, or catches up with someone.
The structure of a personal e-mail
1. Subject line — short and clear
2. Greeting — “Hi…” or “Dear…”
3. Opening line — a friendly start
4. Main message — your news, questions, or reason for writing
5. Closing — a friendly ending and your name
1. Subject line
“Quick update!”
“Guess what happened!”
2. Greeting
“Hi Youssef,”
“Dear Grandma,”
3. Opening line
“I hope you’re doing well!”
“It’s been a while since we last talked!”
4. Main message
“I wanted to tell you about the documentary I watched last night — it was about how social media affects teenagers, and it really made me think.”
You can also ask a question to keep the conversation going.
“Have you seen anything interesting online lately?”
5. Closing
“Write back soon!”
“Take care, [Your name]” or “Best, [Your name]”
