Learn when to use the infinitive and when to use the gerund, with clear rules,…
Hello! In this lesson, you will learn how to say hello in English and how to tell someone your name. This is the very first thing you say when you meet someone new!
How to Say Hello
In English, we have different ways to say hello. Here are the most common ones:
“Hi” is short and friendly. You can use it with friends. “Hello” is a little more polite. You can use it with anyone!
نتعلم كيف نقول “مرحبا” باللغة الإنجليزية. نستخدم “Hi” مع الأصدقاء، و”Hello” مع أي شخص آخر.
Telling Someone Your Name
After you say hello, you can tell the person your name. Here is how:
Hi! I’m Sara.
Hello! My name is Youssef.
You can use “I’m” (short for “I am”) or “My name is.” Both are correct!
لنقول اسمنا، نستخدم “I’m…” أو “My name is…” وكلاهما صحيح.
Asking Someone's Name
Now you know how to say your name. But how do you ask someone else’s name?
When someone asks you this question, you answer with “I’m…” or “My name is…”
لنسأل عن اسم شخص آخر، نقول “What’s your name?” (ما اسمك؟)
Nice to Meet You!
After you learn someone’s name, you can say one more friendly phrase:
A: Hi! I’m Sara.
B: Hi Sara! I’m Youssef. Nice to meet you!
A: Nice to meet you too!
This phrase shows that you are happy to meet the new person. It is very polite!
“Nice to meet you!” تعني أننا سعداء بلقاء هذا الشخص. نقولها بعد معرفة اسمه.
