Want to Come? — Likes, Invitations & Plans | Common Core Lesson

Learn how to talk about what you like, invite a friend, and make plans in English! A simple, beginner conversation lesson for Common Core students, with Arabic help and a fun quiz.

Welcome to Unit 4! In this unit, we will talk about art and entertainment. Let’s start by learning how to talk about what you like, invite a friend, and make plans together.

1

Likes & Dislikes

You already know “I like.” Here are a few more ways to talk about likes and dislikes:

Example

I love watching films.
I hate loud music.
I’m not really into video games.

💡 Easy Tip

“Love” is stronger than “like,” and “hate” is stronger than “don’t like.” Use them to show strong feelings!

تعرفنا سابقا على “I like”. هذه طرق أخرى للحديث عن الإعجاب وعدم الإعجاب: “I love” (أحب كثيرا) أقوى من “like”، و”I hate” (أكره) أقوى من “don’t like”.
2

Inviting Someone

To invite a friend to do something, we can say:

Example

Do you want to come to the cinema?
Would you like to watch a film with me?

لدعوة صديق للقيام بشيء ما، نقول: “Do you want to come to the cinema?” أو “Would you like to…?” ؟).
3

Accepting or Refusing

When someone invites you, you can say yes or no politely:

Accepting
Yes, I’d love to!
Refusing
Sorry, I can’t. I’m busy.

عندما يدعوك شخص، يمكنك القبول أو الرفض بأدب: “Yes, I’d love to!” أو “Sorry, I can’t. I’m busy.”
4

Making Plans

Once you agree to do something together, you need to plan the time and place:

Example

Let’s meet at 5 o’clock.
See you on Saturday!

Pattern
Let’s meet + (time/place)

“See you on Saturday!”
