English uses three small words for time — “in,” “at,” and “on” — and choosing the right one can be tricky! Let’s learn exactly when to use each one.
IN
We use “in” for longer periods of time — parts of the day, months, years, and seasons:
I study in the morning.
My birthday is in July.
نستخدم “in” للفترات الزمنية الطويلة: أجزاء اليوم (in the morning)، الشهور (in January)، السنوات (in 2026)، والفصول (in summer).
AT
We use “at” for exact clock times, and a few special expressions:
School starts at 8 o’clock.
I sleep at night.
نستخدم “at” مع الأوقات الدقيقة على الساعة (at 8 o’clock)، وأيضا مع “at night” (في الليل) و”at the weekend” (في عطلة نهاية الأسبوع).
ON
We use “on” for days and dates:
We have English on Monday.
My birthday is on July 5th.
نستخدم “on” مع أيام الأسبوع (on Monday) والتواريخ المحددة (on July 5th) وكذلك “on my birthday” (في عيد ميلادي).
FROM...TO
When we talk about a time range — from a start time to an end time — we use “from…to”:
School is from 8am to 5pm.
I study from Monday to Friday.
لنتحدث عن فترة زمنية، من وقت البداية إلى وقت النهاية، نستخدم “from…to”، مثل: “School is from 8am to 5pm” (المدرسة من الساعة 8 صباحا إلى 5 مساء).
