Learn how to write a simple "About Me" profile in English! A beginner writing lesson…
You already saw a few Present Simple sentences in Unit 1. Now let’s learn this tense properly — how to make statements, say “no,” and ask questions with it!
Saying What You Do (Affirmative)
We use Present Simple for things that are true or that we do regularly:
I play football.
You study English.
She plays football.
نستخدم Present Simple لأشياء حقيقية أو نقوم بها بانتظام. مثال: “I play football” (ألعب كرة القدم). مع he/she/it نضيف “s” للفعل: “She plays football”.
The -s Rule (Spelling)
Adding “-s” is usually simple, but a few verbs change spelling:
إضافة “s” بسيطة عادة، لكن بعض الأفعال تتغير: play → plays، لكن study → studies (الياء تتحول). أيضا watch → watches و go → goes.
Saying What You Don't Do (Negative)
To say “no” in Present Simple, we use “don’t” or “doesn’t”:
I don’t play tennis.
She doesn’t play tennis.
After “don’t” or “doesn’t,” the verb goes back to its base form — no “-s”! We say “She doesn’t play,” not “She doesn’t plays.”
لنقول “لا” في Present Simple، نستخدم “don’t” مع I/you/we/they، و”doesn’t” مع he/she/it. مثال: “She doesn’t play tennis”. بعد don’t/doesn’t، الفعل يعود لشكله الأصلي بدون “s”.
Asking Questions
To ask a question, we put “Do” or “Does” at the beginning:
Do you play football? Yes, I do.
Does she play tennis? No, she doesn’t.
لطرح سؤال، نضع “Do” أو “Does” في بداية الجملة. “Do” مع I/you/we/they، و”Does” مع he/she/it. مثال: “Does she play tennis?”.
