Learn how to use "much," "many," "some," "any," and more to talk about quantities in…
You already know comparatives (cheaper, more expensive). Today, we learn superlatives — the words we use when something is the “most” of all!
Short Adjectives
For short adjectives, we add “the” + adjective + “-est”:
للصفات القصيرة، نضيف “the” + الصفة + “est”: cheap → the cheapest. تغييرات إملائية: big → the biggest (مضاعفة الحرف)، easy → the easiest (تحويل y إلى i).
Long Adjectives
For long adjectives, we use “the most” before the adjective:
للصفات الطويلة، نستخدم “the most” قبل الصفة: expensive → the most expensive. أمثلة أخرى: successful → the most successful.
Irregular Superlatives
A few adjectives don’t follow any rule — you need to memorize them:
These irregular forms don’t use “-est” or “most” at all — they’re completely different words!
بعض الصفات لا تتبع أي قاعدة، يجب حفظها: good → the best (الأفضل)، bad → the worst (الأسوأ)، far → the farthest (الأبعد).
Making Full Sentences
Superlatives always use “the” before them, because they describe the ONE thing that is more than all the others:
This is the most expensive shop in the city.
He is the richest man in town.
صيغة التفضيل المطلق تستخدم دائما “the” قبلها، لأنها تصف الشيء الوحيد الذي يفوق كل الأشياء الأخرى. مثال: “He is the richest man in town.”
