Free 2 Bac Lesson Plans: Humour (Unit 2) — Vocabulary, Modals, Functions, Reading & Writing
Free downloadable 2nd Bac lesson plans for Unit 2 — Humour. Vocabulary, modals, expressing requests and lack of understanding, a reading on the magic of humour, and a funny story writing task — aligned with Ticket to English 2.
Unit 2 of Ticket to English 2 covers Humour — one of the more naturally engaging topics in the syllabus, paired with modal verbs and two closely related functions: expressing requests and expressing a lack of understanding. Below are six free, ready-to-teach lesson plans covering the full unit.
All six are free to download, built on the ESA model (Engage, Study, Activate) and aligned with the Moroccan Standards-Based Approach.
What’s Included
Vocabulary: Humour
Vocabulary related to jokes, puns, and funny situations, giving students the language they need to discuss and describe humour in English.
Grammar: Modals
A full lesson on modal verbs, taught through humorous contexts that make the practice more memorable than abstract examples.
Functions: Expressing Requests
Practice making requests appropriately — a genuinely everyday communication skill, tested directly in the exam’s language section.
Functions: Expressing Lack of Understanding
A second functions lesson on expressing confusion or lack of understanding — a natural pairing with humour, since jokes and puns often hinge on double meanings students may need to ask about.
Reading: The Magic of Humour
A reading passage exploring humour itself, keeping students engaged while building the comprehension skills the exam tests.
Writing: A Funny Story
A complete lesson guiding students through writing their own short funny story — genuinely enjoyable creative writing practice within a structured format.
Built around Ticket to English 2
All six lessons are aligned with the Unit 2 syllabus and the Moroccan Standards-Based Approach, so they slot directly into your existing pacing for this unit.
How to Use These in Class
Pair the two Functions lessons deliberately
Expressing requests and expressing lack of understanding work naturally together — students often need to ask for clarification right after making or hearing a request. Teaching them close together reinforces both in realistic exchanges.
Use the reading to introduce vocabulary in context
Covering the Vocabulary lesson just before the Reading lesson means students meet the unit’s key words once directly, then again inside a real text — reinforcing them without extra repetition drills.
Let the funny story draw on everything else in the unit
Encourage students to include at least one modal verb and one request or clarification exchange in their funny story — a natural way to pull the whole unit together in the final writing task.
Humour lowers the stakes for weaker writers
Because the writing task is playful rather than formal, it’s often a good unit for hesitant writers to take more risks with language — worth pointing out explicitly to students who tend to hold back in more formal writing tasks.
